IRESS Powers Education in Off-grid area with Solar Inverter Backpacks

As part of its commitment to promoting sustainability in the education sector, RKK’s subsidiary, iRESS Limited, has supported children in off-grid communities in Nigeria by donating iRESS Solar Inverter Backpacks and educational tablets. This initiative, carried out through its CSR project, was in collaboration with Slum2School, Africa’s educational initiative.
The solar inverter backpacks feature a 40W foldable hard-shell solar panel, a 150W customized inverter with AC 220V, a 128WH LiFePO4 battery, an educational tablet, and other essential components.

This initiative supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by tackling the challenges of limited electricity and digital access to educational resources in off-grid areas. The solar inverter backpacks are designed to provide sustainable energy for powering devices such as tablets, mobile phones, and other electronic gadgets, ensuring uninterrupted access to educational materials.

During the handover ceremony at the Slum2School STEM and Innovation Center in Makoko, Head of Special Projects, Ibukun Fagbeyiro, highlighted the transformative impact of the donation. “This is more than just technology; it’s about empowering children with opportunities to excel academically and make meaningful contributions to their communities.”

Slum2School’s Project and Campaign Manager, Adekunle Idowu, also emphasized on the broader impact of the donation, noting, “Access to sustainable energy is crucial for education in underserved communities. These backpacks will empower our learners to embrace technology, improve their academic performance, and inspire change within their environments.”

One of the beneficiaries, Poten Ylonful, also expressed his gratitude, saying that the backpack would give him access to more educational resources, and help his mum in her petty business.

IRESS’s contribution underscores the role of private organizations in driving educational equity and sustainable development through solar energy. Through partnerships like this, iRESS continues to champion innovative solar power solutions that bridge the gap in education for children in underserved communities, paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future.
